How do you feel about paying a monthly fee to play online games? With all the speculation about Diablo 3 and Battle.net 2.0, it becomes obvious rather quickly that many people are highly opposed to it. Will those people please share your views as to why? I am not talking about Diablo 3 only, but people with this mindset about online gaming in general.

What is a mere $10-15 each month when you pay 3-4x that for one new game?

I am opposed to P2P for several reasons.

One is that I do not generally sit down and play a game for a month straight. I will play it for a night, wait a while, play it again etc. This makes monthly payments simply not worth me paying for.
If i own the game outright, even though it costs 3/4 times more, I can play it when I want, so I can pay a one time fee for this. I also like the fact that I own the game, rather than basically just "renting it" from the makers.

I would much rather pay more up front for a game ($60) than to make monthly payments ($20 plus $12/month). I'm the type of player that spends a lot of time on a game. If I have to pay a monthly fee, it would end up costing me a fortune. And I like to be able to go back and play again later. I ended up not getting Final Fantasy XI because it was an online fee based game. And I love Final Fantasy. Maybe I ended up missing out, I don't know.

I agree with Mrs. Beasley. I would rather pay more upfront than pay less over the time period I play the game... maybe thats because I dont have a job or the money to do so =[. In the long run, to complete everything would cost a fortune. This is why I wouldn't play any game thats P2P, like FFXI or WoW (how I despise everything that game stands for >=[ )

Maybe Ill change my mind in the future =]

Its obviously that blizzard wants infinite money, they ask more and more on wow they get so much money a day that me in 100 years -__-
Look I need 0.5 $ more to buy something, Blizz makes 0.5 $ in a blink of a eye can blizzard blink for me ^_^ ? NO way they don't give money, no contest no prizes, but when it comes to getting money from gamers they are all happy and smiling -_-

Agreed entirely.
Im VERY frugal when it comes to money, and Im not willing to pay for a game that Ive already payed for before. I have far too much to do with college and all to hardcore play, like I could in the past. I also have more than enough bills to pay without some game gumming up the works.

i myself have played a lot of mmorpg and have been paying monthly fees to almost all of them .. i dont have a problem coz they too have to maintain servers and this is a full time job they have to pay salaries ...and its all well worth it and u can spot the difference as compared to a free illegal server which rely on heavy ads

so i am all in for fees as long the service is good
