Farewell to Player Killing (PKing)?

Lightning Farewell to Player Killing (PKing)?
Seems PKing may be on its way out in Diablo 3:

Bashiok Wrote:We're - in general - not big fans of griefing for any game. It's really only "fun" for one person, and that definition of fun isn't generally something we're going to want to encourage. It's far more positive to encourage and support meaningful and skillful options and systems within a game, than a mechanic for people to instantly turn against one another for no meaningful gameplay reasons.

I definitely remember running with my friends, and someone toggles it, and bam everyone is dead and your one friend is laughing. Ok, ok, good joke I guess, and then you run back and *bam*, you've toggled it to get them back. After a while everyone usually agrees to a truce because it's just a waste of time. But I also remember running with random players and losing extremely nice items because of it, not cool. I'm sure that it was a feature that was right up some people's alleys, I won't deny there are some that would enjoy nothing more than to see others frustrated, but is that truly something that should be encouraged through design - if not directly opposed?

We have a large focus on cooperative play for Diablo III, and the mechanics and design decisions related to multiplayer are likely going to be based on supporting and encouraging it as much as possible, and not breaking it down.

That doesn't mean that PvP won't have its own focus, but those are details and features we aren't yet discussing.

I used to play a game called Runescape, in which the creators destroyed player killing, and a decent amount of players left. I hope this doesn't happen to Diablo III even before its released.

Why would you want to PK anyway?
I always saw Diablo as a more cooperative game than a competitive one. Sure, I wanted to be a higher level and get higher XP than the people I was playing with, but I wanted to do that working in a team and using the characters in my party to their full potential!

I think when it comes to games like Diablo players should have the right to choose exactly when they do and don't want to be flagged for Player killing. The whole toggle off and toggle on antics Bashiok speaks of are pretty silly and I assume are only carried out by younger players too young to accept the importance of teamwork and basic respect for the fellow player.

If this is true and confirmed I will yell "Nooo!!!" I love to pk, if there will be no pk, were is the fun, you fell good when you kill someone and take the item >:), if there is no pk lots of players will quit, if there is no pk we will only play to finish the game Indifferent
that is very boring!
Well I hope its not true -_-
Take care!

I never PKed in D2 anyways, so im not really that disappointed, but you have to admit it will be a hell of alot of fun Slicing and Dicing GIANT bosses, like Seige Breaker Assault Beast with your friends....

But PKing was fun, i do hope that they have some form of system that allows you to attack each other, if not then we will find a way.... im sure of it Veryhappy
