Here is what the developers have to say regarding Diablo 3's new loot/drop system:
"We've changed the way loot drops. It drops on a per player basis. [In] Diablo 2 you really had to fight for the loot a lot and here you don't have to do that. Your loot... anything you see on the ground is for you. That creates, actually, a lot of sharing... a more cooperative spirit than sometimes the competitive nature of Diablo 2 drops were." Thoughts? Do you think this is a move in the right direction, or do you feel it will take away from part of the challenge? |

RE: New drop system... thoughts?
Honestly, the game looks great. Although, the colorfulness needs to go. Diablo is supposed to be dark and gruesome. That is a huge factor in the game. Also, P2P is so that they can afford to run constant updates and have special events. Diablo isn’t the kind of game where you need to have these special events. The only kind of event that would be nice for Diablo is PvP events and that’s it. If you start adding all the other special events then you just have another WoW, and if that happens I’ll stick with D2 and GWs. My biggest concern about D3 is what the PvP aspects will be like and the online community. For example, will they be sticking with the join game or will it be a open game w/ “Instances”.The Stone of Jordan is listed at 18.9/1000. This means that out of 1000 unique rings dropped that were high enough level to be The Stone of Jordan,

RE: New drop system... thoughts?
I'm not really feelng that to be honest. I actually liked the fact that you had to almost "fight" over items, it made it a lot more realistic. If you think about it, that is what would happen in real life. Some people would choose to spare the items out to improve the party as a whole, while some would keep the best items to themselves if they found them.
Getting your own items takes something away from the game, take it away I say!

Only time will tell if it ends up being a successful change but the whole "fastest click wins" system currently present in Diablo II is a bit dated and can easily result in bitter relations between players; I know a lot of players enjoy the excitement of it though. I didn't know they changed the loot system, awww I liked the old one, when something dropped on the ground, click, click, click, "all mine YaaaaY!" I was feeling so pro :P, now its kinda WOW like -_-, they should only change the graphics, the story, add some new chars items etc but not mess so much with the gameplay, anyway I can't wait to play it ^_^ Cheers !

It would be better though, instead of the items being seen only by you, they should put a time deley on how long it will only be visible to you, once that delay is gone anyone can see the item and everyone has a chance to pick it up..
